A young woman seeks integrity, passion, and joy
When her husband goes off to law school, Sara stays behind in San Francisco because she's just gotten promoted at her job. It's manageable. She and Mark will focus on their careers and temporarily be BCDR, that's all: bi-coastal, dual rental. She doesn’t realize that both she and Mark have set off on quests that will reshape their lives.
Sara moves in with her capricious sister, Amanda, and plugs away at her management job. She plans to improve efficiency and quality while working her way up the corporate ladder. To keep busy, she walks the hills of San Francisco and volunteers at a domestic violence shelter. Her orderly life is fulfilling and secure, Sara tells herself her, even if a bit lonely, and even if Mark is now engrossed in his law classes and new friends.
But when her boss thwarts her idealism, her employees squabble, and volunteering gets thorny (not to mention Amanda has a fling with a married man), and after Aaron, a high-powered consultant who’s also a poet, offers to mentor her, Sara realizes her world is more fragile than she thought. As life throws one curveball after another, Sara discovers her true strength and learns to outwit, persevere, and take charge of her destiny. Set in the early 1990's, In the Land of Porcelain will take you on a roller-coaster ride of comedy, exhilaration, and transformation.
“It’s a story of a woman waking up to her life--with help and distractions from a host of three dimensional, fascinating characters. It's a moving book, a funny one, and even an inspiring one.” —Tonya E., Amazon reader.
